One of the most enjoyable aspects of reviewing products is witnessing a brand’s evolution, and True Linkswear’s journey has been nothing short of remarkable. Initially focused solely on golf shoes, the company has expanded into the crossover/lifestyle market with significantly improved designs that cater to a broader audience. Long-time fans might recall the “clown shoe” aesthetics of earlier models, but those days are long gone.

A few years ago, True Linkswear launched their True Knits, which became a hit for their lightweight feel, comfort, and versatility. While I love my True Knits and wear them daily, they lack the structure I prefer for golf. That’s why I was excited when True Linkswear introduced the True OG Sport—a shoe that combines the best features of the Knits with added stability and structure, plus the bonus of being waterproof.

Putting the True OG Sport to the Test

I received my pair of True OG Sport just in time for a 10-day trip to Mexico. Determined to pack light, I brought only two pairs of shoes: flip-flops and my new OG Sports. Over the trip, I walked miles on roads, trails, and rocky terrain. These shoes were incredibly comfortable and offered excellent traction on uneven surfaces.

During the trip, I also played a few rounds of golf, giving me a chance to evaluate the OG Sport’s on-course performance. The difference was clear: compared to the Knits, the OG Sport provided superior stability and traction, giving me a solid base for my swings. Plus, when a light rain shower hit, their waterproof feature proved invaluable.

Ease of Use: Slip-On Simplicity

Like many, I rarely untie my shoes, preferring to find the right fit and slip them on. The True OG Sport makes this easy with a pull loop at the back. Interestingly, the loop design shifted from vertical (in the Knits) to horizontal in the OG Sport, likely for aesthetic reasons. While it’s slightly less intuitive to use, it still gets the job done. True Linkswear refers to this design as a “Full Sock Fit Flexible Opening,” which ensures easy wear without constant tying.

Enhanced Sole and Construction

One standout feature of the OG Sport is its sole, which draws inspiration from earlier True Linkswear designs. The Cross-Life tread provides excellent grip, and the added support along the seam of the tread and shoe minimizes lateral movement—an essential improvement for golfers. This added structure sets the OG Sport apart from the Knits, making it a more well-rounded option for both everyday use and the golf course.

The True OG Sport has quickly become one of my favorite shoes, both for daily wear and for golf. After a month of use, they’re holding up exceptionally well, and I’m confident they’ll last for years—just like my trusty True Knits, which are still going strong after two years.
